Q: Can my child play if she/he has never played lacrosse?

A: Absolutely. We welcome new players of all ages and all experience levels. It is common to have first-time players join our league in all grade levels. We encourage anyone interested to come to one or both of the free clinics in March to learn more about the sport and our league.

Q: Are there tryouts?

A: There are no tryouts. We welcome all boys and girls in 3^rd through 8^th grade to join Columbia Youth Lacrosse.

Q: What gear will my child need to begin playing lacrosse?

A: Equipment is not required to attend and participate in the free clinics. Once the season begins equipment will be required. A list of required gear can be found at this link. Sticks and pads are available for boy youth players to loan or rent if needed. Due to a recent grant award, the girl's team has a team set of sticks and goggles to use for the season. However, players are encouraged to purchase their own sets for post-season play.

Q: How much will it cost for my child to play lacrosse with Columbia Youth Lacrosse?

A: Dues vary between $75 to $150 depending on the season. Each player also needs a $30 membership to USA Lacrosse which is required for grant qualification and insurance purposes. The USA Lacrosse membership is good for a full year and can be used for multiple seasons. Please do not let these costs deter prospective players from joining Columbia Youth Lacrosse. Scholarships are available.

Q: Is travel required?

A: Travel is not required as all scheduled clinics, practices, and games for the 2023 season will be in Columbia, MO. We are exploring the possibility to schedule games with teams from surrounding areas (e.g. St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, etc.) but these are bonus opportunities outside of the league games. More information will be provided for these opportunities as we get closer to the season and participation will not be required.

Q: Will pictures of my child be posted to social media sites?

A: On occasion, CYL posts pictures of players in either a posed group/team setting or from a candid action shot of a practice or game to the CYL website or the CYL Social Media Accounts (Facebook Page(s/Instagram). As a policy, CYL does not ''tag'' or caption these photos with players' or parents' names. If your player appears in a photo and you would prefer that they did not, the photo may be removed or the player's face will be obscured, at the organization's discretion. All removals/obfuscations will be done on a picture-by-picture basis; as a volunteer-run organization, CYL does not have the time, resources, or manpower to preemptively review all pictures against a list of excluded players. For photo removals/obfuscations please send a link/URL to the photo in question to the current Communications Director with a description of your player in the photo so we know who needs to be removed/obscured.
